Course statistics

Read once a week from the public repositories of the 41 learners who set up the course, and from the badges they claimed. Last update: 2026-10-12.

Started and completed

A level is started when its first branch exists in the learner's repository, and completed when its badge was awarded.

Level Started Share of learners Completed Share of started
Level 1 - Contributor basics 41 100% 23 56%
Level 2 - Contributor advanced 17 41% 4 24%
Level 3 - Release Manager 6 15% 0 0%

Time spent

The median time of the learners who went through, next to the estimate each lab was written with. A figure appears once 3 learners are behind it, and from then on it is the time the lab page announces. Under that, the lab keeps its estimate.

How the time is measured

Nobody is timed. The time is read afterwards, between the commits, the Pull Requests and the Pull Request comments of each repository: a lab ends when its Pull Request is merged, and runs from the end of the one before.

A break longer than 45 minutes is not counted, so a learner who stops for the night adds nothing. Work done in the org leaves no trace on GitHub, which makes every figure a low estimate.

Labs 1.1 and 1.2 install the tools and create the orgs before the repository exists. They are not measured, and Level 1 is counted from Lab 1.3.

Labs that share one Pull Request are measured together.

The fastest is the fastest time somebody could have done the lab in. A figure under five minutes, or under a quarter of the median, is two labs checked in a row and is set aside. The slowest is not shown: it is somebody who was interrupted.

The time a lab page announces is this median, rounded down to five minutes, and the time of a level is rounded down to a quarter of an hour. A lab measured with others takes its share of their time, and a lab fewer than 3 learners went through keeps its estimate. The pages are rewritten from the figures every week.
